Examples of Active Faith
The Shunammite woman lifted her son and placed him
on the bed of the Man of God. She then closes the door and
leaves her son on the bed. The scripture has yet to mention
that this woman complained or grew in fear, and the reason
is because she did not. Her faith was anchored in knowing
that all is well. She immediately requested a young man and
a donkey to go and see Elisha. Despite her son being dead,
when the woman’s husband questioned her, she
responded, “It is well.” It is important to notice that the
woman was not fretting; she knew that everything was
going to work out according to God’s will.
In the conclusion of this story, Elisha came to the house
of the Shunammite and prayed for the child. The Bible
teaches us that the child sneezed seven times, and opened
his eyes. This story exemplifies what it means to have faith,
to be committed to God even in an unwanted circumstance,
and to act according to our faith. I pray that our faith is one
that is not without actions in our lives. I pray that we move,
act, and react in behaviors which exemplify faith in action.
