Examples of Active Faith

              Shunammite Woman & Elisha

Another example of unwavering active faith is
demonstrated in 2nd Kings 4:8-37. In the text, Elisha raises

the Shunammite's son; however, there were a series of
events prior to Elisha raising the Shunammite’s son. The
Shunammite woman is not named in the scripture, but what

is discussed is that she had the gift of hospitality. Because of
her gift and kindness, this woman extended Elisha a room
within her house. The room included a table, lampstand,
and a bed. The purpose of the woman providing the room

was to allow Elisha to rest as he traveled back and forth. The
woman explained to her husband that she perceived that
Elisha was a man of God, and this perception of who Elisha

was compelled her to extend her home, and ensure that
Elisha was not in lack as he ministered. The Bible teaches us
that the woman made sure the prophet Elisha had
somewhere to sleep, and food to eat. People have different

gifts, but all our gifts should be used to bless others. This
woman blessed the prophet through her gift and faith.

After learning through scripture about how the woman
took such good care of Elisha, we understand why she is a

woman who not only possesses faith, but also utilizes her
faith; therefore, her faith is active faith. Throughout the
entirety of the fourth chapter, the woman failed to have

doubted God. Her actions illustrate courageous actions. She
knew with each decision she made that she was doing the
right thing. It takes the Spirit of God to have provided such
