Finding Faith In The Storm
guidance, and it took a spirit of obedience from the
Shunammite woman to enact on God’s plan.
Because of the actions demonstrated in this chapter, we
connect as believers our faith with obedience. We cannot
excel at having active faith in God while disobeying what he
has led us to do. In further explanation, the scripture
teaches us, “Faith without works is dead.” Our actions must
always meet our faith, and we must be moved by our faith
because if we fail to make any actions based on what we
believe, then our faith is only dominated within us, and not
brought to use for the Glory of God and edification of the
church universal.
According to the scripture, the Shunammite woman’s
son died while he was sitting on her lap. The prophet Elisha
prophesied to the woman that she would have a son, but
the child’s early death or illness was not foretold. The
question one may ask is, “What would you do in such a
situation? How would you deal with this tragedy?” The
normal response to knowing a loved one has passed
especially a child is one of grief.
Grief is demonstrated in various ways because some
people scream, some people may cry, and others may be
silent due to the shock of losing a loved one. There is no
correct response to death. In similarity, there is no correct
way to respond to a painful situation. Despite what
emotions the woman may have felt when her son died, she
did not react in a way where she failed to believe that God
was still in control.
