Finding Faith In The Storm
Cain & Abel
The Bible states in Hebrews 11:4, “By faith Abel offered God
a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained
witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and
by it he being dead yet speaketh.” This scripture illustrates
how Abel pleased God while his brother Cain did not. The
questions many of us may ask is, “What was different
between Abel’s offering and that of Cain? Why was God
displeased with Cain, yet pleased with Abel?” There are
various reasons to discuss why Abel’s offering pleased God.
However, the scripture discusses that is was because of
Abel’s faith his offering pleased God. It is not always what
we do, it is how we do it. For example, Abel’s heart and
belief was into his decision to make his offering. The Bible
teaches us that God loves a cheerful giver. To operate in
faith, our actions must not be done with feelings of grudge
or selfishness. If we present God with our lives, time, gifts,
money, or skills, it must be done cheerfully.
One of the worst feelings one can have is to know that
someone gave you a gift, but he or she had a bad attitude
behind giving. Perhaps someone gave you something but
had a selfish motive behind it. Regardless, if we are giving to
God or someone else, we must operate in faith knowing that
God multiplies what we give to him. Our motive has to be in
the right place. We have to serve God knowing that our
serving is only to seek his kingdom. Our motive to serve
dictates our outcome. Faith should be our motive to fully
seek God, and to honor God in our giving.
